Last Thursday evening saw the opening of the exhibition ‘Unframed’ and what a night it was! Yet again, Oxheys was packed as visitors from all over the region came to see this exciting exhibition of work, beautifully curated by international artist Tracy Hill, and found they could interact with print in ways they had not previously considered.
The work exhibited is from artist/printmaker members of ArtLab Contemporary Print Studios, including Gill Yates, James Diable, Tony Knox, Helen Hicks, Rebecca Ligget, Julia Swarbrick, Tracy Hill, Nuala Ryding, Jane Bennet, Leighton Bohl, Rita, Simon Plum, Julie Saul and Denise Swanson (the latter three also resident artists at Oxheys). Curated by Senior Printmaking Technician at UCLan Tracy Hill, the brief given to all artists was simply that nothing could be framed – they would have to find alternative ways to hang, or install their work in response to the building and what a response! From plaster floor tiles to fragile floating prints, from wallpaper to artists’ books, from a minimal log to a giant suspended sunflower, the diversity of ideas is inspired – so much, that visitors did not want to leave as they were enjoying it so much but sadly it was time for the evening to come to an end.
We would like to say a huge thanks to all the exhibiting artists for being so creative, to Tracy for curating and installing a wonderful show and to everyone who came to the opening for making such a fab evening.
The exhibition is now on until 1st December so there time for everyone to come back and enjoy a second visit or if you haven’t been yet, come and see it whilst you can. We are open Fridays and Saturdays 11-4 and during other events.
