Join us for the very first Art Jam to be held at the Harris Museum & Gallery in Preston as part of the Lancashire Encounter festival, as we celebrate our 7th birthday! We’ll be in Gallery 6 on the 2nd floor from 12-6pm Saturday 22nd September. We have a diverse selection of artists taking part, some on easels who’ll be sketching and drawing whilst others will be reading poetry or singing or playing instruments and yet others will be crafting and making things. There will also be some spare easels for anyone to come along and just join in. The idea is for everyone to respond to the activities and sounds going on around them, as one big collaboration.
Alongside the Art Jam will feature the large scale Art Map of Lancashire, created by Oxheys artists Tim Saunders, Gordon Ashworth, Caroline Finnigan and Evelyn Rose, this map will show the number of artists, musicians and performers throughout Lancashire and the connections between them. This is a work in progress so if you didn’t submit your entry in time to be on the map, don’t worry , come along on the day and Gordon or Evelyn will help – you can also Build An Artist in plasticine to add to the map.
The Art Map is being left on display in Gallery 6 until Sunday 23rd September, so those who are busy taking part in other activities for Lancashire Encounter will still have a chance to see it.
Oxheys artist Caroline Finnigan will be spinning wool from Lancashire-bred sheep, dyed with Lancashire wild plants, to create organic woollen squares which will form part of a giant art piece – come and add your own square to the art work!
Meanwhile, other Oxheys artists include Bernie Velvick and Becky Atherton doing their own origami activity Starlight Starbright just outside Gallery 6, whilst Denise Swanson will be photographing all of the activities and attempting to co-ordinate the Art Jam.
Oxheys artist Robin Fanner will be modelling for the Harris Life Drawing session from 12-3pm with Tim Saunders invigilating. The session has been moved to the Community Gallery on this occasion and will also be open, so Robin will be clothed and anyone can pop by and see what the session involves and perhaps book for a future date.
Come along and see us this weekend!
