Time, Place & Negotiated Space – an IWD event

By Denise on January 28, 2012

We are excited to be part of #womensday the International Women’s Day  series of events being held throughout Preston, organised by UCLAN’s Professor of Contemporary Art, Lubaina Himid MBE.

Taking place on March 8th is a tour which will start at the University of Central Lancashire and include the UCLAN Adelphi Building, the Harris Museum & Gallery, Prescap, the Centre For Contemporary Art and Oxheys Mill Studios. Artists work featured include Rebecca Chesney (Adelphi), Tracey Hill & Martha Oatway (Harris) and Elizabeth Burns (Prescap) along with work from black women artists held in the archives at the CCA.

The exhibition at Oxheys will be curated by Lubaina Himid and feature work from the resident female artists Julie Saul, Denise Swanson, Lisa Gorton, Lauretta Rapley, Evelyn Rose and Hannah Allan who will each open their studios at Oxheys during the day and welcome visitors to look around and talk with the artists as well as view the work on display.

Between 6-8pm that evening, the exhibition Private View will be held at Oxheys between 6-8pm to meet all of the artists taking part in the event, enjoy the work, talk and network. Everyone welcome – men included! Refreshments provided

The exhibition at Oxheys will then run until April 20th and will be open Fridays and Saturdays 11am-4pm. See other venues for details of their opening times.
