It has been a busy summer at Oxheys with lots of work and a few changes. In the basement, Joe, one of the founding artists, moved out of his studio and was soon replaced by Terry, a ceramist, currently doing an MA at UCLan. Terry originally set about cleaning up and repainting one of the open plan basement spaces that became available but when Joe’s self-contained space became free, it was more suitable so he jumped at the chance, started building his workbenches and soon had his kiln and wheel set up.
Terry is now settling in to his new studio and is starting to make some new work. He is planning to run an open studio (times to be advised) so will welcome visitors once he is fully set up. He is also planning to run workshops, details will follow in due course. Some of Terry’s work is included in the LAN Open exhibition and some is on display in the meeting room on the first floor. We welcome Terry to Oxheys, look forward to working with him in the future and to seeing more of his wonderful pottery.
The upstairs meeting room has been redecorated and now provides another alternative exhibition space, suitable for smaller, more intimate events. It has also been used for small private film screenings. It is currently showing more work in the LAN Open exhibition as a satellite to the main show in the Project Space downstairs. The room is available to hire, for exhibitions or one-off events, at a very reasonable cost. Enquiries welcome.
Elsewhere in the mill, co-founder and resident artist Denise has completed the re-fit of her studio specifically for photographing 2D and 3D artwork. As more artists appreciate the need for high quality images of their work, her services as a professional photographer are becoming more in demand as images of artwork are needed to accompany exhibition or funding proposals, for promotional use and for artists’ websites or brochures. Denise also provides a service to produce a series of limited edition prints or greeting cards.
There is currently an open-plan basement space available. It is not suitable for all art forms but for anyone working in sculpture, pottery, 3D artwork, weaving, digital media or sound for example, it could be ideal. It is also a good space for research or even for storing work. If interested, do get in touch and arrange to come and view before submitting an application. We are especially interested in hearing from artists who can commit to spending regular times in their studio and who want to become involved in the activities at Oxheys.
