Dream Mapping, the latest exhibition at Oxheys, is on til 2nd July. An exhibition of original work by resident artist Gordon Ashworth, makes use of a kind of mapping, building on shapes, symbols and animal totems, drawing upon the unconscious and dreams, attempting to connect the spirit world with the physical.
Gordon’s recent drawing and painting is based around colour, pattern and repetition. He has also begun to incorporate words and their meanings into his work in the form of symbols and totems, creating a map of the human psyche.
The exhibition is receiving excellent feedback as visitors get the opportunity to explore the ideas in Gordon’s mind.

March has indeed been marching on – we started the month with the Making Histories Visible IWD Family Album show which opened on the 8th and ran for just a few days but was a great success and very popular. We are now preparing for the arrival of the PHOTOGRAPHY! exhibition which features work from some of the best professional photographers in the country and a fitting way for Oxheys to begin our 5th birthday celebrations! Do join us for the Private View on Thursday 7th April – all welcome. No RSVP needed

We are delighted to welcome three new artists to our ranks – Caroline Finnigan, who joined us in December, along with Tom and Suzanne Woolsgrove who join us next week. Caroline, a teacher and crafter, runs group classes and workshops for crochet and knitting from her studio, which initially was in the basement but an opportunity arose to move up to the first floor, so she is setting up her studio again.
Tom, an old friend of Oxheys, is a classically trained violinist and music theorist. He will be running private violin tuition classes from his studio space in the basement alongside Robin, who runs life drawing and also yoga classes from his studio and Gordon, who works in ink and paint in his open studio. Suzanne will share Tom’s space when he is not using it, to make her art and craft and for photography.
Things are starting to get busy – we’ve lots of events planned for 2016 and our new artists will be running various workshops so if you’ve not joined the mailing list already, now is a very good time to do so and please do tell your friends!

The Chernobyl exhibition from Bryn Griffiths has proven very popular, especially since his talk as more and more visitors have come back to see it again whilst others are coming for the first time having heard about it from friends. As it was only on for a short run, we are very pleased to advise we have agreed with Bryn that it will be extended for a further couple of weeks before it is whisked off to New York and Japan for exhibition there.
Our usual ‘winter’ exhibition will therefore not take place this year but we will be hosting a winter evening with mulled wine and mince pies on December 10th from 6-8pm to which all are welcome. In addition, our friend Chelytherium is making a return visit to play some Chernobyl-inspired sound scapes – do come along and see this fabulous show, listen to some atmospheric sound and enjoy some wine and conversation. We look forward to seeing you and hope you can join us.
The exhibition will now run until December 12th open Fridays & Saturdays 12-3pm.
