Affordable art gifts and hand-made cards at Oxheys

By Denise on December 17, 2012

A selection of handmade cards, prints and small gifts are available to buy in the loading bay area of the Winter exhibition currently on at Oxheys Mill Studios in addition to most of the work on display in the exhibition, some of which sold on the opening night.  We set up the ‘Under £15’ table, as an experiment, featuring items hand-made by some of the resident and guest artists, for the opening of the exhibition last week and were amazed by the response. Guests loved the opportunity to buy some unique and affordable art, seasonal cards and gifts and so the table was busy making sales throughout the evening. The table will remain in place for visitors to the exhibition right up until Christmas so if you are looking for a unique gift, some affordable art or just some original hand-made cards, you know where to come. Open Friday and Saturday 11-4

Winter exhibition

By Denise on December 10, 2012

Private View

With the brief of making work on the theme of ‘winter’, artists from across the region have interpreted this in a variety of interesting and thought-provoking ways, making the selection process for this winter exhibition very hard. There was just so much good work to choose from! The selection has been done, the show is now installed and we can’t wait for you to see it! Do come along on Thursday for the Private View when there will be a chance to win a Lubaina Himid original painting – worth around £800!!

The 2012 Winter exhibition at Oxheys is a perfect opportunity to view some fascinating and unusual art and find an original Christmas gift as most of the work in the exhibition can be purchased and taken away on the day. There is  also a selection of  handmade cards and prints to buy.

Come and enjoy the work of the artists who support us, our friends and fellow artists. The exhibition is open Fridays and Saturdays 11-4 until January 26th 2013.

Last chance to see – ‘Unframed’ print exhibition

By Denise on November 27, 2012

We can’t quite believe how the time has flown but the exhibition of work from Preston-based ArtLab member artist/printmakers is nearly at an end so this is your last chance to see the show before it closes on Saturday 1st December. If you haven’t seen it or you have but you want to come back for another look around or to bring a friend, do come along on Friday or Saturday this week between 11am-4pm.

Also on Saturday we will be accepting the first submissions for our Winter exhibition so there is a good opportunity to combine a visit and bring along your work.

Call for submissions – Winter exhibition

By Denise on November 16, 2012

Last year at this time, we issued a call for submissions for a ‘Winter’ exhibition, asking asked artists to respond to the theme of ‘winter’. Open to wide interpretation, we had a great response and some wonderful work submitted, making an interesting and imaginitive exhibition from which several works sold during the Private View! So we are doing it again – and all local and regional artists are  invited to submit.

Winter can be interpreted in so many different ways and we accept 2D and 3D work in all media so this is an opportunity to really use your imagination. All entries are subject to selection and entry forms/terms and conditions of entry are now available.

Music & art combination goes down a treat

By Denise on November 12, 2012

The recent performance by the Swingin’g Never-beans, featuring resident artist Simon Plum, proved that an informal evening of music and art do indeed mix. The fusion of blues, jazz and ragtime set in amongst the artwork in the Unframed exhibition, went down well with the audience and the acoustics of our old mill gave a very mellow sound which suited the dimmed lighting, creating a totally different atmosphere to any of our previous events. The evening was well attended and much enjoyed by all, proving that this type of event can work well in our project space. Read the review by The Two Hats.

By Denise on October 29, 2012

First arrivals for Unframed Private View

First arrivals for the Unframed private view at Oxheys

Last Thursday evening saw the opening of the exhibition ‘Unframed’ and what a night it was! Yet again, Oxheys was packed as visitors from all over the region came to see this exciting exhibition of work, beautifully curated by international artist Tracy Hill,  and  found they could interact with print in ways they had not previously considered.

LAN exhibition – open at Oxheys

By Denise on September 14, 2012

We are very pleased to be hosting the LAN Open art exhibition which opened with a very busy Private View on Sept 13th with visitors coming from across Lancashire and even Cumbria, Manchester and Cheshire. It was our busiest opening yet with many of our regular friends and visitors coming along but also most of the artists who had submitted work were also there, along with their friends. For many of the artists, the first time they saw our space was when handing in their work so it was wonderful to see them enjoying the exhibition and how their work had been displayed and to see so many people there. All the artists seemed overjoyed with the way we had curated and displayed the work and seemed genuinely pleased to have found out about a ‘hidden gem’ in Preston. We hope to see them again at many more events.

The reactions from everyone present were very positive with some lovely comments in the Visitors Book.

The exhibition is open Fridays and Saturdays 11am-4pm and runs until 20th October.

Live drama with Preston Youth Theatre

By Denise on September 6, 2012

It has been an absolute privilege to work with our friends at Bluestreak Arts in hosting two live performances with Preston Youth Theatre who suddenly found themselves without a venue for an important production they had been planning and rehearsing for months as part of the Preston Guild. Bluestreak provided lots of chairs and the lighting and PA system and helped us set everything up in the project space, while upstairs the performers made use of our first floor meeting room as a dressing room. Seemed strange finding so many people crammed into the room all changing costumes.  Continue reading “Live drama with Preston Youth Theatre”
